Finished transferring contents

The last bits of translated stuff from the Korean version of the old site have now been integrated to this place. There weren't all that many, of course - only three articles had ever been translated. If I'm not doing translation of the old stuff now, at least I didn't need to ditch the ones that had already been done.

I think I'll have to modify the old site so that anyone connecting to that place is automatically redirected to here.

Korean static pages are up

I've sprinkled the static pages... stuff like the 'about' and 'profile' pages, that is... with helpful photos. People said all text and no photo looks boring, so I dug up some relevant photos and placed them next to each paragraph. It look pretty now.

And shortly after that was done, I also finished creating the Korean versions of those static pages. Visitors from Korea no longer need to read the English version. Even with the photos the text just doesn't get absorbed very well for a lot of readers so this would certainly be a welcome addition. Now the only thing the website isn't in Korean is most of the articles. I'm not sure when or if they will be translated.

Site tweaks

Using the new plug-in I made, I have now moved some links to the top part of the page to act as some sort of a navigation bar. I may experiment with this for a while. Also, the gray background behind the contents was a real downer, so I had it changed to a bluish tone that matches the overall feel of the website. I have tweaked the behaviour of the hyperlinks slightly as well - the underline appears only when the mouse hovers on it.

Overall, most of the things I wanted to see on the website are now settled into place. I'm getting really accustomed to this blog system now. The two other websites that are still left on the old website might be integrated to this place as well. I'm not sure.

Google Ads, 'Top Nugget' plug-in

In the old Tool-Box website, I had LinkExchange ads placed. That was sort of okay, but it didn't do much and was pain to manage. So in this new Tool-Box website, I'm trying Google ads. I'm hoping this one's better.

I'm trying two types of shapes here. Since the main page is long, I put a tall banner on the right. In each of the entry page, it's not typically as long, so I put a wide banner on the top.

Serendipity does not support 'top' or 'bottom' sidebar, so I made a plug-in so that you can put HTML nuggets on the top of the entry page. I call it HTML Nugget on Page Top plug-in. It should appear on the SourceForge CVS as serendipity_event_topnugget soon. This plug-in enabled me to put the banner ad as an HTML nugget so it appears on the top of an entry.

Webserver guide updated

I have edited the MySQL, phpBB, and s9y installation method slightly to reflect a more secure way of doing it.
