It isn't here yet, but it's a done deal?

Third time's the charm?

I ordered an equipment on Thursday through Auction (kind of like eBay and is indeed run by eBay Korea). It was shipped out on the same day via KG Yellow Cap (kind of like FedEx), and usually, it should arrive a day later. What the picture tells you with "배송출고" on 22nd, 23rd, and 25th is that the courier went out with the package with the intent to deliver it to my doorsteps.

Well, it's still not here as of this writing, although I've contacted the courier in question and he told me he'll really try to deliver it today. One problem is that he errorneously tagged it as "배송완료" on the 23rd, which means it arrived at the destination. This told Auction that the shipment has basically been fulfilled, and unless I tell the system otherwise, it'll automatically complete the whole transaction in exactly one week, which is on December 1st, which is what "12-01결정" at the bottom means.

I think the system just recognizes any "배송완료" string as the shipment completion and ignores anything that subsequently happens. This sucks, because the counter has gone off earlier than it's supposed to and it has no intention of reverting.

A thought after watching Catching Fire

A fiery pawn
The story of The Hunger Games is essentially about a teenage protagonist that accidentally set the chain of revolution into action in an oppressive government. The sobering part of it is that, even though she's essential to the whole process, she's ultimately a political pawn that are tossed around by both the government and the rebels for their own end.

She does not really understand what's happening around her. I wonder if we aren't, either.

Tool-Box.info is back online

Wesley's Tool-Box was offline for a 53 days since February 2, 2013, when the iMac (Early 2008) that ran the website since May 2008 broke down.

Replacement system was sought, and a souped-up Mac mini (Late 2012) was chosen to pick up the task. Unfortunately, there had been a few issues - recovering the files and database from the iMac didn't go as smoothly as planned; Mac mini didn't get along with certain brand of SSD; family stuff.

All that's behind now. Enjoy the site once again - thank you for your patience.

App now listed in "What's Hot"

Korean Power Grid Info is selling like hotcakes (click for full screenshot)
A couple of days ago, before end of August, Korean Power Grid Info app for iOS devices surpassed 2,000 downloads. That took only about three weeks, and considering the somewhat obscure nature of the software, I think it's selling pretty well. It's consistently present in top 50 free downloads chart in the Business category. I think the word is going out somehow, and there's always quite a bit of people who download it every day.

Now, it seems that Apple has noticed this and put the app under "What's Hot" section of the Korea iTunes App Store's Business category. That's pretty hot! :-) I'm glad it's getting a favourable recognition. Thanks for everyone who downloaded.

Selected again - this time in US App Store

Recognized in the USA, too (Click to enlarge)
I suppose the Korean Power Grid Info app isn't particularly interesting to the people in the United States. The rank has been steadily moving down (started at 113, now at 160). Maybe I need to find a way to let the folks in the power grid business in the US know about the app? Still, at least I can take comfort in the fact that the app will nevertheless be staying on top of the Business category for a while. The Apple has selected it as "New & Noteworthy" for the US App Store, as well. Thanks for recognizing!

ADDENDUM 12:18 - The New & Noteworthy has added a few more apps and now my app is pushed out of the first page, although it's still in the list if 'See All' is clicked. Meanwhile, the visibility did apparently garnered some interest as the rank got boosted to #109 for now. Interesting...

ADDENTUM 17:38 - Hey, it's now #95. Finally broke into top 100! Pretty cool.
